The church murals of Croatian artist Maxo Vanka (1889-1963) are a beloved Pittsburgh treasure being restored diligently by the Society to Preserve the Millvale Murals of Maxo Vanka. With recent restoration work to showcase, it now speaks louder than before. Audience will pair these characters with some gorgeous, unforgettable classical and non-classical musical dramas, chosen for the very resonant acoustics. This short concert and tour will bring the walls to life. The concert is hosted by composer Rick Robinson, Mr. CutTime himself, who was a double bassist in the Detroit Symphony Orchestra for 22 years, until breaking out with a mission to play for broader public in 2012.Rick on double bass will be joined by Beo String Quartet members Andrew Giordano ("Gio") on 1st violin and Jason Neukom on 2nd, and Bastard Bearded Irishmen's Stephen Weiss on acoustic viola.
Required tour tickets are generally $20 with open seating. Reservations this time of year are recommended at www.savemaxovanka.org
The Save Maxo Vanka Holiday Lights Tours feature pre-tour performances the whole week between Christmas and New Year's Eve. The "tour" is spotlighting the delicate murals with docents giving context and personal insights from 7p-8.
