About this Event
Last Autumn we teamed up with the Wear Rivers Trust to start clearing litter along Cut Throat Dene in Seaburn, as well as a stretch of beach nearby, as part of the Great British Beach Clean. We had a fantastic turn-out for that event and made a real impact, but also decided that there was plenty of potential for a follow-up. A lot of litter along the watercourse is caught up in surrounding vegetation, and should be much easier to get at at this time of year, before new growth gets underway. For this opportunity we will concentrate solely on the Dene, which is a popular area for walking, and hopefully leave it healthier for wildlife and more attractive for the local community. A space that looks clean and cared for is much more likely to stay that way, we find. This event is also part of a Northumbrian Water funded Bluespaces project focussed on Cut Throat Dene.
Event details:
We will meet at the entrance to the dene at 10am, which is opposite the new children’s play area on Seafields in Seaburn (what3words /// share.filled.rewarding). This is a 5 minute walk from Seaburn Metro Station. There are some free parking options on Seafields/Lowry road in the residential areas, as well as paid parking along the seafront.
What to bring:
No special skills or equipment are required, as litter pickers and bags will be provided. Please dress appropriately for the weather, with sturdy footwear. Everyone is welcome but please note all under 18’s must be accompanied by an adult. There are toilets and cafes nearby at the seafront, and you may wish to stay on for lunch or a hot drink to warm up after the activity.
