Currents of Practice emerges as a responsive art event interweaving wetlands, time, and creative exploration.Launching on World Wetlands Day, February 2, 2025, at Coolart Homestead and Wetlands, this inaugural exhibition celebrates the ecological and cultural significance of wetlands.
Proudly supported by the Mornington Peninsula Shire through the Arts and Culture Grant Program & in partnership with the Western Port Biosphere and Friends of Coolart, Currents of Practice weaves a narrative of art, conservation, and community, amplifying the stories of our wetlands on a local and global scale.
Featuring the works of local, regional and international artists across painting, sculpture, performance, and more, the exhibition invites audiences to immerse themselves in the rhythms of nature and explore profound connections between time, place, and creativity. Various artworks will be for sale.

* 12:00 PM: Exhibition opens to the public.
* Visitors can explore artworks displayed throughout the Homestead, Observatory, and surrounding Wetlands.
Saturday, February 1, 2025
* 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM: Exhibition open to the public.
* 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM: Opening Event featuring acknowledgments, speeches, and light refreshments.
Sunday, February 2, 2025 (World Wetlands Day)
* 8:30 AM: Park opens.
* 9:00 AM: Homestead and buildings open.
* 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM:
* Coffee available, provided by Friends of Coolart.
* Bug-Dipping Activity led by Western Port Biosphere: Kids and adults can explore what lies beneath the surface of the wetlands using ID kits and magnifiers.
* 10:00 AM: Bird Life Mornington Peninsula– sensory table and resources of the Wetlands
* 11:00 AM – 12:15 PM: Q&A Panel Discussion hosted by award-winning journalist and environmental advocate Tracee Hutchison, featuring participating artists This conversation will explore the intersection of art, conservation, and the cultural significance of our internationally recognised wetlands.
*12:30 PM: Talk by the Western Port Biosphere's Lance Lloyd on the ecological importance of wetlands and their future.
* 12:30 PM:
* Dominic White’s live sculpture performance of The Empathy Suit.
* Continued exploration of the exhibition throughout Coolart Wetlands and Homestead until 4pm.
* The exhibition remains open during all activities for visitors to explore works at their own pace.
* Admission is free.
