Program OverviewMiss Bea’s Kids’ Book Club for ages 8–12 invites upper elementary and middle-grade readers to explore meaningful stories and real-world ideas through books, conversation, and creative challenges.
Sessions encourage kids to think critically, share perspectives, and discover how stories connect to their own lives and communities.
This program is inclusive, trauma-informed, and designed to empower kids as thoughtful readers and confident voices.

Book Club Adventure Map
📚 February 22nd — Curiosity & Belonging
"New Kid" by Jerry Craft (graphic novel)
We kick off with a powerful, relatable story about identity, fitting in, and asking honest questions. Kids explore how stories help us understand ourselves and others.
🏫 March 29th — Courage & Voice
"Front Desk" by Kelly Yang
Readers examine fairness, empathy, and bravery through discussion and guided reflection activities that build critical thinking and perspective-taking.
⚖️ April 26th — Justice & History
"Separate Is Never Equal" by Duncan Tonatiuh
A true story that introduces civil rights, leadership, and standing up for what is right, with age-appropriate conversation and discovery exercises.
🌍 May 31st — Action & Changemaking
"Be a Changemaker" by Laurie Ann Thompson
Kids connect reading to real-world impact and create their own small changemaker plans. Includes a Curiosity Crew celebration and certificates.

The Curiosity Crew is FREE and open to kids ages 8-12. However, participants are encouraged to purchase their own books and read prior to gathering. Excerpts from the books will be provided at each meeting for those who have not obtained a copy prior to the meeting.
