About this Event
Join us for an engaging Curator’s Conversation featuring acclaimed multimedia artist Baseera Khan in dialogue with Alex Dika Seggerman, co-curator of Powers of the Unseen. This thought-provoking discussion will explore the intersections of art, spirituality, and identity, delving into how Khan’s work navigates themes of family, labor, and religious experience.
Khan’s bold and deeply personal practice has been exhibited at major institutions, including the Hirshhorn Museum, Brooklyn Museum, and the High Line in NYC, challenging conventional narratives through a fusion of sculpture, performance, and installation. Seggerman, an art history professor at Rutgers-Newark, brings her expertise on Islamic modernism and contemporary visual culture to the conversation.
This event is part of the programming for Powers of the Unseen, currently on view at Express Newark’s Paul Robeson Gallery, which highlights global artists engaging with the concept of the Ghayb (the Unseen) in Islamic thought.
Don’t miss this opportunity to hear from one of today’s most compelling contemporary artists in an intimate setting.
