About this Event
Curating an exhibition of the work of El Anatsui has been on our Director Tessa Giblin’s bucket list for a long time. That Anatsui made a new work for this exhibition, that it is the first UK survey of his work – add to everything that makes Scottish Book Mission Depot Keta remarkable. Five years in the making, the epic journey of realising this exhibition included working out how to use the façade of the Old College building and how to bring Anatsui to Edinburgh to receive an honorary degree. Telling stories about how this all came together – seeing record numbers of visitors for Talbot Rice Gallery – Tessa will take you behind the scenes and introduce what it is about this artwork that is so important. What does El Anatsui’s studio look like? How do you bring together works of this scale? What drives the curatorial thinking for this kind of exhibition? This is your opportunity to find out.
