Learn from curator Justin Beckman about the film and video selections in Vertical Hold. Presented by PUNCH Projects in Thorp, WA and @galleryoneellensburg in Ellensburg, WA, the 2nd annual “Vertical Hold” exhibition explores film and video in ways that challenge the typical notions of the cinematic timeline. Whether it’s found footage and expired celluloid, analog mixers and titlemakers, or projection mapping, drones and artificial intelligence, each artist in this global survey brings a unique approach and process to their exploration of time-based media. Visitors to either location can expect to find themselves immersed in looping visuals and sounds featuring everything from cowboys and muscle cars, to kinetic head sculptures, cakes and baguettes. Some of it is weird, most of it is beautiful, but all of it will have you thinking about film, video and motion pictures in a very different way.
