About this Event
Every year the State Library collects maps from many different sources, and each has its own story to tell. The Library’s map collections record historical events, tell stories of possession and power, and describe our place in the world, from the sixteenth century to contemporary views of Wollongong.
Come along and hear from some of the Library’s curators as they reveal the tales behind the fascinating maps recently added to the Library’s collections.
As the Head of Collection Acquisition & Curation at the State Library of New South Wales, Maggie Patton manages the Library's collection acquisition program and leads the curatorial team in activities that interpret and profile these invaluable resources. Maggie has led numerous creative initiatives, including exhibitions, public programs and digital engagement projects. Maggie’s deep love for historical artifacts including rare books and maps drives her passion for preserving and sharing the Library's rich cultural heritage.
Alice Tonkinson is a librarian in the Collection Acquisition and Curation branch. Alice has researched and written about maps, globes and atlases in the Library’s collection and is the co-curator of the Library’s Map Rooms.
