Two of Edmonton's most talked about indie-bands, Arts Major and Selfish Bodies are coming to Regina, joined by our beloved grungy alt-rock trio, Cupid's Heart from Prince Albert.
ARTS MAJOR:
Arts Major is a child of the pandemic and an old man of old men. Once ago we wrote about being in our 30s, and that was after writing songs about our 20's, but time marches forward and now it's 40s- how about you? Ani Difranco once said, "People used to make records, as in the record of an event, the vent of people playing music in a room. Now everything is cross marketing. It's about sunglasses and shoes, or guns and drugs. You choose." People playing music in a room, this is what resonates so clearly now some 25 years after Ani sang those words in a room. As seasoned players, friends, colleagues, comrades, activists, and allies, we see our place in the musical landscape as not a vector for fame or recognition, but much more simply, as a way to gather together in temporary community formations on a landscape that bears the sorrow of the displaced and murdered.
SELFISH BODIES:
Selfish Bodies is a fresh voice in the Indie Pop Rock realm. Their musical journey, colored by the desire to create art that is a real, heartfelt, and raw take on themes relating to mental health, love, and attachment, cumulates in a style that interweaves both electronic and synthesized soundscapes with familiar guitar and rock sounds.
CUPID'S HEART:
A combination of the unruly and the refined, Cupid’s Heart uses cello, electric guitar, drums, and low female vocals for a grungy take on alt-rock that fits them like a baggy sweater. Sonically described as “Chrissie Hynde Pretenders vibes with a pinch of Nirvana”, Cupid’s Heart expresses some of the complexities that go along with love and life, and does so from a queer perspective. The trio, composed of Emma Jean, Stacey Dunn, and Zachary Kerr, is based in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Cupid’s Heart released their debut EP, Atrium, July of 2023 while still a duo and were nominated for Contemporary Indigenous Artist of the year at the SaskMusic Awards that same year. They have seen airplay on multiple community and college radio stations across Canada, as well as Nationally on CBC. They have embarked on several tours across Canada. Steadily gaining attention for their captivating and energizing performance and positive attitude, this act leaves audiences talking long after the music fades. Their newest single, Pink Sally, comes out April 4, 2025.
