About this Event
Join us for Colombian Folklore Dance!

Ready to dive into the world of traditional Colombian dancing? Love the sound of drum playing and body movement? Come and learn the art of Colombian Folklore Dance in this sensory based workshop with Hastings local Marlyn Lopez.

This is an introductory session to learn the basics of this traditional dance form. No prior experience needed and materials provided.

During the event, you will get a chance to practice different movements and techniques while discovering the rich history of Colombian dance. Meet friends, try a new skills and move for well-being!


About our facilitator:

Kim is an artist, and a teacher of traditional Chinese (2000 years history) , Chinese Calligraphy, GCSE Maths teacher and an art teacher. She has more than 25 years of teaching experience.


Kim has won many art awards in different types of artwork. For example, she won the world art exhibition which was held in Japan. East Sussex College Hastings head teacher commissioned Kim to decorate the fifth floor corridor with Lunar New Year celebration art and she has sold her artwork in Hastings Museum every summer and winter. You can find Kim's artworks posted in Hastings Museum, art galleries and Christ Church. Kim has also held a fashion show (all of them designed by herself) and performed a solo in a concert ( in Chinese and English lyrics) in Da La Warr Pavillion.


Your workshop ticket gets you:

1.5 hour session to learn the art of Colombian Folklore Dance

A cultural experience and the opportunity to meet new friends

A workout and musical session in one

Snacks and refreshments

A chance to ask Marlyn any questions about Colombian culture/tradition


*Please note that this is a pilot project and that the costs of workshops may change/increase in the future.

*Our classes are for adults aged 18+ only unless specifiied otherwise. If you need to bring a child with you, we ask that you contact us first to request this.

Workshop Learning Style: Sensory


Location:

The OBX space in the Observer Building


Access info:

The building is wheelchair accessible. Someone will greet you at the font of the building and take you downstairs to the OBX space via an elevator.

There will be a 10 minute break in the middle of the session.

Lighting and sound levels can be adjusted in the space. A chill out space will be provided.

Here is a preparation story for anyone wanting to plan their visit in advance.

Age requirements:

This class is adults who are 18+ only. If you need to bring a child , or anyone under the age of 18, we require you to request this before attending. Contact Santi: [email protected]

The suggested ticket price is £4.

Alley Way Learning classes makes learning accessible to all. Please reserve yourself a free/low cost ticket according to what you can afford (down to £0) - no questions asked.

If you can afford to pay more, we are grateful as these help to fuel our operational and materials costs.


Please note: some filming and photo taking will happen in the space. Attendees can opt out of this upon arrival.
