INSTRUCTOR BIOS:
**CORWIN FOX**
www.corwinfoxmusic.com
Corwin Fox is a Canadian songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist living on Vancouver Island. Having toured across four continents, Corwin has been spending an increasing amount of time recording and producing other artists across a wide range of genres. He still plays concerts and festivals performing his songs on banjo and guitar, and he teaches songwriting to youth each summer, but the studio has really become his focus since he founded the Corwin Fox Academy of Perpetual Excellence. Corwin is also playing with Richard Reed Parry's Quiet River of Dust.
Born in Halifax and raised in Ottawa, Corwin went to high school at Canterbury High, a school for the arts, where he studied theatre and learned to play bass, guitar and mandolin. From 2000-2002 Corwin attended Fanshawe College (London, ON) to absorb the Music Industry Arts Recording Engineering program. While there, he won the award in 2001 for best song from EMI Music Publishing Canada with a song called “Doctor God”.
Corwin continues to write, record and tour, although he is quite content that the bulk of his time is now spent in his studio or hanging out with his kids and making soup.
**TEREZA TOMEK**
Tereza Tomek is a Vancouver Island based songwriter
who draws inspiration from great stories both real and imagined. She uses colourful characters, vivid imagery, and a good dose of humour to bring unique tales to life. She is also an educator who facilitates workshops that help others experience the joys, and sometimes frustrations, of music and songwriting. She has
worked teaching youth songwriting workshops at festivals such as Ignite the Arts, Music on the Mountain, Artswells, Nannup Music Festival, and Robson Valley Festival. She recently toured with the program Freedom Arts, bringing music workshops to schools across Northern BC.
Tereza recently completed a Jazz Studies Diploma from Vancouver Island University. In addition to performing her own music, Tereza plays bass in several local bands in her home community of Comox Valley and is passionate about learning music in a variety of styles, including country, latin, bluegrass, old-time and jazz.
She is also an active organizer and advocate for her local music community, and a founding producer of the Woodstove Music and Arts Festival presented annually in Cumberland, BC by Cumberland Culture & Arts Society. Participating in the arts have helped Tereza overcome significant challenges in her life around social anxiety and depression, and she is passionate about nurturing a healthy and supportive arts community.
"Tomek, a born storyteller, writes West Coast songs themed around striking characters. Tereza sang in a plain, strong way that conveyed emotional honesty, and with wry humour, drew laughter from the audience, which also enjoyed singing along" - The Island Grapevine (Denman Island. Commmunity Newspaper)
