This 8-week term of weekly classes starts Sunday 5 May
10.30am – 12.30pm
Culture Dose for Kids is a free weekly class for children and their carers. Each week you will visit the gallery, chat, enjoy morning tea, make and create.
Join us for Culture Dose for Kids (CDK), a term of Sunday morning art classes for children and parents to create together. Our gallery is a safe space for self-expression to build confidence and foster social connections, to help support more children and families through stressful or anxious times. Sessions focus on children’s wellbeing by exploring nature, colour and feeling through looking at the natural world and artworks from both the current exhibition and the gallery’s collection. The project emphasises self-expression through open ended outcomes to highlight mindful experiences and to build confidence and connections with others. Each session’s theme and related art making activity is also designed to engage the senses and use tactile, playful exploration to build self-confidence and personal expression. Mindful practices are included in each session to help equip participants with practical tools to use outside of the program. Morning tea and all artmaking materials are provided.
About the program: CDK is brought to the Cultural Centre with the support of the Art Gallery of NSW and the Black Dog Institute. It is an arts engagement program to support children with anxiety and those impacted by natural disasters. The development of this program has been funded by the Jibb Foundation and is a collaborative partnership between the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the Black Dog Institute.
Each session follows a pattern:
1) a guided viewing experience of three themed artworks
2) morning tea
3) an open-ended art making experience and ending with
4) a group sharing of ideas and artworks from the session
Extra info: Apologies to previous participants but, as this program has associated research outcomes, this class if for new participants only.
