About this Event
Nalbinding Workshop at Artspace Macclesfield
Join us for a fun and interactive workshop on nalbinding led by Outside In artist Katie Sawyer. Nalbinding is the ancient craft of creating textiles using a single needle. Whether you're a complete novice or have some experience, this event is perfect for anyone interested in learning this unique technique.
During this hands-on session, you'll learn the basics of nalbinding, including Oslo stitch and how to make a warm woollen hat. Our expert instructor Katie Sawyer will guide you through the process, ensuring you gain the skills needed to create your own beautiful nalbound items. You'll also learn the fascinating history of nalbinding and why ancient textiles are so precious and rare.
Don't worry if you've never tried nalbinding before, this workshop is designed for beginners. All materials will be provided, including a handmade wooden needle and two balls of 100% sheep's wool in white.
Dexterity requirements
Nalbinding uses a single blunt wooden needle in your dominant hand and tightens the yarn on your non dominant thumb. It takes a while to get used to the hand movements, but once you do it's looser and more relaxed than knitting or crochet. The needle is lightweight and you don't have to hold onto it continuously so allows more hand resting as you work.
