About this Event
Architecture is not an isolated area of knowledge, rather the opposite. The logics of architectural projects are in continuous adaptation to the context in which they operate. The construction of the built environment needs to confront challenges such as climate change, technological disruptions, economic and geopolitical collapses and demographic movements, among other important global changes. This continuously changing reality demands integral solutions and awareness of new situations.
The Architectural Logics for Emerging Contexts (ALEC) research line aims to work on new disciplinary logics in response to the changing and emerging contexts that we must address for a fairer and more sustainable society. After the Tectonics logic, which among its objectives were to promote a nonextractive architecture, the activity of the research group will follow with the Cultural Logic Seminar
Within the context of new and evolved praxis related with the cultural production and dissemination of the contemporary architecture, a seminar is organized with three sessions that will give voice to agents of architectural culture, researchers, professors, and commissioners of international impact.
ALEC_Cultural seminar seeks to explore the profound connection between architecture and culture, recognizing architecture not only as a cultural fact but also as a medium through which the social, political, and environmental dimensions of our society can be read.
Culture is presented as a constructive material that, from architecture and beyond, must be considered and treated.
Therefore, the seminar's objectives are:
1. To address architecture as a cultural fact from different formats and mechanisms in emerging
contexts.
2. To encourage a critical spirit about the capabilities of architecture as a cultural medium from academic research.
3. To attend to the communication capabilities of architecture with society and explore cultural praxes.
Through these lines of research, the seminar aims to open a dialogue on how architecture, understood in its broadest sense, can contribute to the configuration of spaces that reflect, question, and communicate the cultural, social, and political values of our time.
