What is the PROTECT initiative and Cultivating Resilience Summit 2.0?

In 2023 the Montgomery County Alcohol, Drug Addiction, and Mental Health Services Board (ADAMHS) launched an initiative to become a healing-centered, trauma-responsive county – to raise awareness, and reduce the impact of adversity and trauma on children’s health and well-being, and address health disparities. The Promoting Resilience Over Time to Eradicate Childhood Trauma (PROTECT) initiative’s mission is to build a network of care to help youth prevent, address, and heal from the potential harmful impacts of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and other adversities. Three county agencies—Montgomery County Juvenile Court, Children Services, and the Board of Developmental Disabilities Services— originated this effort, which now extends to a Network of Care including other county agencies and local community partners.

The summit invites members and potential members of this Network of Care to learn more about prevention initiatives happening in Montgomery County and deepen their understanding of relevant topics. During the afternoon of Day 2 we are inviting the youth we are serving for feedback to improve services and will be offering sessions targeted to their interests.

The initiative is funded in part by a three-year grant from the Office of Minority Health at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. For more information, visit https://www.mcadamhs.org/prevention/aces_protect.php
