About this Event

Welcome to the Mushroom Cultivation Workshop!

Join us at Fifth Season Gardening on South Tunnel Road in Asheville, NC for a hands-on workshop on cultivating your own mushrooms. Learn the ins and outs of growing these tasty fungi from experienced growers, Jesse & Sweet Dee of Resting Point Farms.

This workshop will cover how to properly mix and prepare a basic substrate capable of feeding a wide range of mushroom cultures. We'll cover the differences between pasteurization and sterilization through the lens of mushroom cultivation. Students will not only learn important fundamentals, but also engage in hands on learning. Every student gets to pick a mushroom culture and inoculate a bag of sawdust to take home.

Mushroom culture varieties will vary based on level of health and maturity in our inventory. Varieties may include: Oyster, Lion's Mane, Nameko, Enoki, Chestnut.

Jesse holds a Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology, and Dee holds the North Carolina USDA Wild Mushroom Foraging and Food Safety certification.
