About Marc James

Marc James serves as The Nicholson Project’s 2022 Garden Manager where he oversees our large, organic, neighborhood garden. Envisioned as a central point of engagement with our community, our garden offers a unique opportunity for programming at The Nicholson Project around the intersection of the arts, farming, and the natural world.

Marc’s agricultural journey began in 2004 while working as a Farm Tech at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Upon receiving his Master’s in Food Microbiology, Marc spent time in Belize learning Ancient Mayan and Mennonite farming methods. Experienced in crop production and animal husbandry, Marc brings a tried and true approach to organic growing methods, irrigation and pest management strategies through his exposure to farms around the globe.

Marc founded Higher Harvest, where he teaches about urban agriculture and builds custom planter boxes. Additionally, for over 10 years, he has volunteered time and knowledge to marginalized communities in Baltimore City and Washington, DC to support various food banks.

Marc loves cooking, Go-Go and Reggae music, as well as, live theater and comedy.
