With a foundation in Canadian roots rock and a penchant for crafting noisy guitar jams, Cuff the Duke's unique blend of genres has consistently escaped the confines of simple classification, earning them an honoured place under the umbrella of "alternative." Six albums, a pair of JUNO nods, countless miles clocked on the road, including sharing stages with iconic acts like Blue Rodeo, Hayden Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds and Calexico. Then, poof! A ten-year vanishing act, playing only a handful of shows in that time. But like all great tales, theirs has a twist: Cuff the Duke has reemerged from the shadows. Cuff The Duke return with their new album Breaking Dawn on September 6, 2024.
Energetic, hard hitting and hooks for days, Royal Castles are making nostalgic but contemporary garage-rock. Hailing from the Royal City of Guelph, Ontario and featuring the power trio of Katrin Sawatzky, Jordan Gabriel and AJ Johnson (JUNO-nominated Cuff the Duke), the three-piece take influence from the bands of their formative years, delivering pounding drums, crunchy guitars and a healthy dose of wooly bass. The trio recently released their much-anticipated sophomore album, Just The Hits, recorded at North of Princess Studio with producer, Zane Whitfield (The Glorious Sons, Bluestones). The full-length album is filled with ear candy: killer drum fills, psychedelic-bubblegum harmonies and crunchy guitar tones that will be sure to make this album feel like sunshine year-round.
Over the past several years, Matt Paxton has performed his sizable folk-rock and alt-country repertoire across Canada, in the process gaining a reputation as one of the country's most promising up-and-coming singer-songwriters. Paxton's body of work now includes five albums, a handful of singles and EPs, and notable live appearances with the likes of Daniel Lanois, Blackie & The Rodeo Kings, Astrid Young, Evan Dando, and many more. Since forming The Pintos -- consisting of bassist Carrie Clark and drummer Robin Pirson, along with Altmann -- Paxton has proved he's ready to take things up a notch within the Americana world, with plenty of new music on the way courtesy of his own label, Down By The Point Records. Whether he's on stage or in the studio, Paxton wears his heart on his sleeve, delving into themes of love, loss, and self-reflection. His music has been played on CBC, SiriusXM, and featured by outlets such as CMT, Exclaim!, and more.
