Join us for a choral concert that explores intensity and integrity. The centerpiece of the CU Boulder Chamber Singers’ set is a pair of pieces that capture a snapshot of protagonists’ endeavors moments before they flee their home countries forever. The first is “The Emigrant” by Bavarian composer Wolfram Buchenberg on a text by Irish poet Joseph Campbell. The music sets a dystopian jig at a pub just before the narrator is to leave by sea. The music veers from a celebratory vibe to intense anxiety about the journey to come.
The second of the pair is a setting of a Taiwanese song about a politically persecuted professor who says goodbye to his young child before fleeing the country to save his life. The narrator advises his child to stay strong in character and integrity, in the face of all odds. Assistant Professor of Saxophone Nathan Mertens will perform with the Chamber Singers.
Additionally, the CU Boulder Festival Chorus will perform selections conducted by doctoral student Kevin Wille and master's student Wyatt Smith.
