About this Event
This program brings together several area Building Officials to discuss the challenges of the permitting process for construction. Building permits are the means by which the authorities having jurisdiction manage the construction process to ensure that the work complies with a host of legal requirements, such as building codes, health department oversight for food service, handicapped accessibility, Federal regulations for pollution control and wetlands, highway engineering criteria and local ordinances. These requirements have been enacted to ensure the health, safety and welfare of the occupants and the public. The program has been submitted for contuing eduction credits..
Learning Objectives:
- Participants will understand the purposes of the permitting process and be able to identify the various entities that issue permits need for individual project.
- Architects and engineers will be able to ensure that plans and specifications include the essential information that building officials are looking for when doing their initial plan review.
- Participants will be able to identify the party responsibly for obtaining and managing various permits, whether it is in the court of the architect, consultants, or contractor.
- Participants will understand and be able to plan for and schedule the appropriate permits.
- Participants will be aware of areas where the jurisdiction of the permitting process may overlap and they will have a plan to resolve difficulties.
- Participants will be able to avoid some of the common problems that lead to delays and denials of building permits.
