Learn to care for historic cemeteries in Florida!
Join us for our Cemetery Resource Protection Training workshop! We will explore cemeteries as historical resources while learning about laws that protect them, conserving headstones and markers, managing cemetery landscapes, and practicing hands-on headstone cleaning. By the end of the course, you will be well-versed in issues surrounding the protection of historic cemeteries and ready to record historic cemeteries to the Florida Master Site File!

The classroom session includes a series of short discussions on:
~Cemeteries as cultural resources
~Managing historic cemeteries
~Laws that protect marked and unmarked burials
~Recording historic cemeteries for the Florida Master Site File
The in-field training includes:
~A short tour of the Historic Evergreen Cemetery, est. c.1856
~Active documentation of headstones & cemetery landscapes
~Hands-on headstone cleaning!
Schedule:
10:00 - Registration and welcome
10:15 am- Classroom program begins
12:00pm-1:00pm- break for lunch on your own
1:00-2:00- Meet at Evergreen Cemetery (Address: 401 SE 21st Ave, Gainesville, FL 32641)
