This is a ten day workshop, the ten dates are:

Over the ten workshops you will develop your patchwork skills to create this beautiful Sampler Quilt with each block alternating with a chain to create a striking “Crossing Paths” design.

This workshop has been designed by tutor Carolyn James as a perfect introduction to patchwork for Beginners or as a skill builder for confident patchworkers…. with some blocks having an alternative for different skill levels!

Workshop objectives:

  • Accurate rotary cutting
  • Stitching ¼” seam
  • Half Square triangle techniques
  • Curved blocks
  • Flying Geese
  • Applique
  • Foundation Paper Piecing
  • Adding Sashing & Borders

Carolyn James teaches patchwork and quilting classes nationwide. Her workshops are friendly, fun and jam packed with tips and techniques to help you complete your project. She specialises in teaching Patchwork & Quilting to Absolute Beginners and is an encouraging tutor regardless of students experience or ability.

Full, detailed written instructions are also provided each session. Lots of top tips and techniques from the tutor in a friendly and encouraging class

Once the blocks are completed, the quilt top will be assembled with sashing & borders and you will be taught three quilting techniques - students will then choose how to complete their quilt:

  • Walking Foot Straight Line Quilting
  • Free Motion Quilting
  • Hand Quilting
  • Binding



Supplied:
  • A full colour pattern for the complete quilt top
  • Machines
  • Pins
  • Tape Measures
  • Scissors (both paper and fabric)
  • quilting rulers 6x24"
  • rotary cutters
  • Tea and Coffee



Required for workshop: (all fabric must be 100%cotton quitling weight fabric)
Please ensure that your fabrics are labelled A-G before the first class.
  • FABRIC For chain block background - 3m
  • FABRIC A for chain block - 50cm
  • FABRIC B for chain block - 50cm

(for patchwork blocks vv)

  • FABRIC C Dark colour - 1.5m OR 3 x 50cm complimaentary tones
  • FABRIC D Medium colour - 1m OR 2 x 50cm complimaentary tones
  • FABRIC E Medium colour- 1m OR 2 x 50cm complimaentary tones
  • FABRIC F Light colour - 1.5m OR 3 x 50cm complimaentary tones

(for Inner border and Binding vv)

  • FABRIC G - 1.25m {for month 5}
  • FABRIC for backing - 2.5m of extra wide (108"/275cm wide){for month 6}
  • WADDING - 80/20 cotton mix wadding - 2.5m (90”/96” wide ){for month 6}
  • THREAD 100% cotton sewing thread (e.g. Gutterman 100% cotton) in pale grey
  • Chalk Pencil
  • STATIONARY Notebook/paper, pen/pencil, glue stick and A4 file for keeping your paper and instructions together
  • (optional) Your own rotary cutter with a new blade, cutting mat, small paper scissors, small fabric scissors and your own pins (fine and sharp is best)
  • (Recommended) quilting ruler 6½” x 6½” square.
  • LUNCH

Required for finishing at home:

  • quilting ruler 6x24"
  • Your own rotary cutter, cutting mat, sewing machine with a size 70 needle, quilting ruler and a Walking foot
