A Flamenco Dance Performance FREE event in conjunction with the art exhibition of Crossing Borders: Artists from the Middle East and the Americas. Miami Dade College, Gallery of Arts & Design in collaboration with artist, curator Tony Khawam present:
Alessandra Torres is an accomplished Flamenco artist performer, born in Venezuela and now lives and works in South Florida. She is a founding member of Luna Cale, a nonprofit organization created to promote Flamenco music and dance and Hispanic culture. Ms. Torres is passionate about the Flamenco dance art form and teaches students for the purpose of supporting the growth of professional Flamenco artists by sponsoring performances in music, dance to increase awareness of this art form for broader audience outreach.
Luna Cale is a dance company that creates challenging, provocative, innovative and original works of flamenco with the dual goals of preserving, strengthening the tradition and empowering women on stage as well as in life. Ms. Torres is deeply steeped in rigorous study of old Flamenco baile (dance), cante (deep song), and toque (guitar), while simultaneously including new world jazz dance, ballet, and Latino American rhythms.
