About this Event

This event brings together professionals from engineering, construction, architecture, and policy to share insights, challenges, and opportunities in sustainability, decarbonization, and inclusive design.

What to Expect:

Panelists:

Susan Liver – Stantec

Susan brings over 35 years of experience in project management, engineering, and environmental assessment coordination. As a wastewater process engineer, she excels in leading multi-disciplinary teams through major capital projects, complex studies, and large-scale infrastructure design and construction. Susan’s strength lies in bridging technical and operational needs to ensure smooth project delivery and lasting performance. She has overseen projects with pumping capacities as large as 4,600 L/s and has provided QA/QC and risk oversight across Ontario. Her collaborative leadership emphasizes open communication as the key to successful project execution and transition to operations.

Jennifer Cross – Chandos Construction

Jennifer Cross is the Director of Regional Development at Chandos Construction, with over 25 years of experience connecting people and projects that shape stronger, more vibrant communities. As a purpose- driven constructor, she focuses on projects that create lasting value — building spaces that bring people together and strengthen the social fabric of our cities. With a background in political science from Carleton University and interior design from Sheridan College, Jennifer blends policy insight with design thinking to envision what’s possible, not just what is. Her leadership has been recognized with Ottawa’s 40 Under 40 and Ottawa Business Journal’s Top 10 Fastest Growing Companies. She also serves as President of the Canadian Club of Ottawa Board, sits on the Ottawa Business Journal Advisory Board and the Ottawa Board of Trade’s Economic Development Committee, and co-founded City BuildHERS, an event platform spotlighting women-led development projects to inspire greater female leadership inr shaping our cities.

Sophia Wong – Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC)

Sophia Wong leads the Environmental Sustainability Office within PSPC’s Science and Parliamentary Infrastructure Branch. Her team oversees net-zero and climate resilient portfolio planning within the Parliamentary Precinct; advises project delivery teams to meet Greening Government Strategy objectives; and integrates energy retrofits and recommissioning into building operations. Prior to joining the public service in 2020, Sophia spent 15 years as a consultant in energy management, sustainability strategy development, and life cycle assessment. She holds a B.Sc. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Guelph.

CWEEL Canada East (Council on Women in Energy and Environmental Leadership) is a volunteer- run network dedicated to empowering women in the energy and environmental sectors through networking, education, and advocacy.
