About this Event
Head of Place Northwest Hackathon - 'One Big Thing'
Welcome to the ultimate hackathon, this event is an exciting opportunity for Civil Servants to collaborate, generate ideas, and tackle some of the tricky challenges we face in our work.
The Hackathon is jointly hosted by Head of Place Cabinet Office and Ofsted as part of the One Big Thing initiative. We will continue the Hackathon's throughout 2025 so a great opportunity to make a difference.
What is a Hackathon?
A hackathon is a collaborative workshop where colleagues come together to generate ideas and tackle emerging challenges.
Here’s how it works:
Civil Service Leaders will present real issues they’re grappling with. Attendees will choose an issue to “hack” and use an idea-generation technique to generate innovative solutions.
Facilitators will then help refine those ideas into pitches, which will be shared with the leaders later in the day.
It’s a fantastic opportunity to develop creative solutions to complex problems. Even if the ideas aren’t immediately actionable, the experience is valuable for networking and gaining insight into Civil Service programmes and projects.
On the day you will also learn from our Guest speakers about 'Innovation' and working collaboratively in place with our key partners.
The hackathon is open to all grades. We’re committed to making these events inclusive, welcoming everyone’s ideas and respecting contributions based on merit.
You don't need any specific skills or knowledge. In fact, one of the goals of hackathons is to bring together diverse perspectives. If you’re too close to an issue, it can be hard to see creative solutions. These sessions benefit from a mix of experiences and expertise.
So join us at Piccadilly Gate, Manchester for a day filled with conversation, collaboration and creativity.
