Crooked Stem Sessions is an exciting series of avantfolk / improv events in Crystal Palace, South East London, this time featuring:

Luce Mawdsley
Expansively cinematic instrumentals conjuring queer cowboy landscapes via the Northern English coastline.

“Inventive and affecting baroque-jazz-folk from the Merseyside Morricone” - Uncut

“Eight fluid, folk-tinged instrumentals sound quietly lovely while still shaking the emotional foundations” - 4* MOJO

"Notes hang for an extra breath and small moments fade from grayscale to color as electric guitar leads sing and organ chords effervesce like new growth in early spring.” - Foxy Digitalis

“One part classical, one part Americana, and one part folksy (a touch of the Celtic too) there’s still a very modern twist to what we may identify as the familiar: imagine Prokofiev on an acid trip” – Monolith Cocktail

Joshua Arnold & Therine
Joshua Arnold and Therine are a folk duo from the North West, consisting of multi-instrumentalist Joshua Arnold and vocalist Therine. They perform traditional folk music of the British Isles showcasing themes of the dark and macabre blended with elements of drone and noise music alongside original drone folk pieces and historically accurate charms and prayers.

Bity Booker
Bity Booker is an Italian/Australian alternative folk musician and visual artist based in London. A lover of nature, animals and folklore, she writes and sings gorgeous, wistful songs channeling a lyrical folk tradition.

Bity Booker’s "The Frog and the Mouse" (Roud 16) is a particular highlight — a playful, skipping slivery of whimsy.' Songlines magazine, July 2025

'Bity Booker doesn't just perform songs—she casts them. Armed with classical guitar, a voice that sounds like it stepped out of a myth, and lyrics full of animals, dreams, ghosts, and forest whispers, Bity crafts a world that’s both familiar and entirely her own.' Sticky Floors, May 2025
