About the Band
Crooked Coast doesn't waste a minute getting to the goods. They cut their teeth in the dive bars and tourist traps of Cape Cod, Massachusetts where they learned to get the hooks and don't stop till last call. Listening to them, you can feel the bright colors of a summer vacationland and the darkness beneath the surface; the long winter waiting around the corner. They don’t shy away from the darkness but there's a contagious streak of optimism and humor in their music as well.
The quartet - Luke Vose (vocals, guitar), John McNamara (guitar, vocals), Ben Elder (bass, vocals), and Shaqed Druyan (drums) - don’t take genres too seriously. They pull inspiration from pop punk, grunge, hip hop and reggae effortlessly. Their “us against the world” mentality and DIY energy earned millions of streams independently and acclaim from Dig Boston, Vanyaland, and many others.
A shared sense of brotherhood has driven Crooked Coast since day one. John and Ben have been playing in various bands together since middle school. When Luke connected with them it was immediately apparent that there was something special about John and Luke sharing lead vocals. The versatility allowed them unique stylistic freedom. With the addition of Shaq, the current iteration solidified in 2017.
While grinding out local gigs and blazing through the country in a 12 passenger van spreading their music like wildfire, their hip-hop/reggae earworm “Go Slow” gathered north of 624K Spotify streams. In 2020, “Rise & Shine” cracked the Top 5 of the iTunes Top Reggae Songs Chart.
Their 2022 album Picture This, mixed by Courtney Ballard [5 Seconds of Summer, Good Charlotte, The Used], amassed over half-a-million streams as the band graced the bills of major festivals, including Boston Calling, Beach Road Weekend, and Reggae Rise Up. Not to mention producing and headlining their own Coast-Fest in Falmouth, MA where they annually draw 1,500+ people for a day of music, art, and local food & drink.
Last May they released Nothing Before & Nothing After, an album featuring production by Gary Cioffi [Grayscale, Transit], Anthony Saffery [Portugal. The Man] and Charlie Scene [Hollywood Undead.] The new songs are not only fan favorites but have made their way to editorial playlists like Apple Music’s Rise and Grind Punk Playlist.
Sugar Shack Sessions took notice, inviting the band to Bonita Springs, FL to record a stripped-down acoustic EP with a companion visual release. The full project is slated for an October 2025 release and singles are currently rolling out on YouTube.
Fuelled by raw energy and fearless authenticity Crooked Coast continues to carve their own lane in the industry. Blurring lines of genres and building community they’re proving a band from the edge of the Bay State can make waves far beyond it.
