Learn the Rules of Poetry So That You Know How to Break Them!
A Critical Theory Poetry Workshop Facilitated by Internationally renowned Poet Igor Goldkind
• A 3 hour donation workshop in poetry writing, poetics and critical theory in memory of the late Louise Karsten, matron of the literary arts in San Diego
• Learn what makes a poem a poem and not a story or a confession. Learn poetic structures, dynamics and inspirations so that you can surpass them.
• Learn literary critical theory and how to apply it to your writing to become a better poet, a better writer and a better person.
• Students are asked to submit a poem or short prose piece that they are currently working on in advance of the session.
• Pieces are selected by American Academy of Poets member Igor Goldkind (author of Is She Available?, Take a Deep Breath, and spoken word album “Breathless”) and workshopped as a group.
We will use your current writing to teach you poetics and how to find the heartbeat of your work.
A former student of Carolyn Forche, Ken Rexroth, Gary Snyder, and David Halliwell , Igor Goldkind has been published in the Oxford University Poetry Journal, The Guardian, The London Literary Review, the San Diego Poetry Annual ( 4 consecutive years) and a variety of small press collections. He the author of two multimedia collections (author of Is She Available?, Take a Deep Breath, and the spoken word album “Breathless”)
