We invite you to a seminar on Psychoactive Substances, Governance, and Resistance in Central and Eastern Europe!The one-day event on October 17, 2025 held at the Institute of Sociology, Jagiellonian University in Krakow (Grodzka 52, Krakow) brings together sociologists and interdisciplinary drug scholars who will critically examine:
- The intersectionality of substance use,
- The social construction of drug-induced pleasures,
- Genealogies of drug-related practices, and knowledge,
- Restrictive legal frameworks of the region.
The seminar also addresses key methodological implications in research on psychoactive substance use in peripheral, diverse social and political contexts.
The event is co-organized by the Institute of Sociology, Jagiellonian University, Department of Cultural Studies, University of Opole and is an initiative of the recently created Critical Drug Studies Group.
There are scholars focusing on Poland, Eastern Europe or Central Asia featured in the program, who come from various Polish and international universities.
