About the Book
The latest collection from Wisconsin poet Cristina Norcross, The Poetry Apothecary (Kelsay Books, 2024), is organized into seven prescriptions one might take with a glass of water in support of one’s existential well-being, promoting such aspects of spiritual health as “Nourishment”, “Raising Humans”, “Inspiration”, and “Getting Lost and Being Found”. An apothecary of subtle yet vibrant poems focused on the reconstitution of the soul, Norcross’s verse provides “a lighted lamp for all who seek”, regardless of what one is searching for. The imagery sways effortlessly from the concrete (“A salve made from hemp, / a broth made from bone.”) to the ethereal (“a steadying force / for the soul uncaged”), yet seems to always find its balance in nature, beauty, and vulnerability. A simple homeopathic antidote to the wear and tear of our daily lives.
