Criminalised Curiosity: Reshaping Policy to Advance Science and Healing Join Prof. David Nutt to explore psychedelics’ effects, drug policy failures and results of evidence-based, healing-focused science.
About this Event

Psychedelic science is experiencing a remarkable renaissance, forcing us to radically rethink our relationship with these powerful substances. But what are they actually doing to us? In this talk, Professor David Nutt will take us on a journey inside the brain and body, demystifying the pharmacology of compounds like psilocybin (magic mushrooms), LSD, ketamine, DMT and ayahuasca.

But this isn't just a story of neurons and receptors. It's a story about why this science has been stifled for decades. Professor Nutt will pull no punches in discussing the 'War on Drugs', arguing that it has been a catastrophic failure on a global scale. He’ll connect the dots between outdated international treaties and the current paralysis in UK drug policy, showing how political fear has consistently trumped scientific evidence—to the detriment of public health, patient care, and scientific understanding.

This is a talk for anyone curious about how these fascinating molecules work, and for anyone frustrated by a system that has criminalised curiosity itself. It’s a clarion call for a more rational, evidence-based approach to drugs, one that embraces their potential to heal as much as it respects their power to disturb.
