About this Event

The Crime Free Multi-Housing Program is a crime prevention initiative designed specifically to help managers, residents, police, and other agencies work together to keep illegal and nuisance activity off rental property.

The unique three phase program ensures the crime prevention goal, while maintaining an approach which is resident friendly, yet effective in reducing criminal behavior. The program educates the owners, managers, and their tenants to improve the livability of the community.

3-Phase Program

Phase I - Management Training (8-Hours) Presented by the Department

· Crime Free Multi Housing

· CPTED Theory

· Legal Issues and Rental Agreements

· Fair Housing

· Gangs/Graffiti

· Drug Awareness

· Working with the Police

Phase II - CPTED – General Inspection by the Police

The concepts of CPTED (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) have proven themselves internationally. The Tempe Police Department offers the inspection as a public service, with the understanding that there is no way to predict or prevent all crime risks.

Phase III - Community Safety Social Event

Annual crime prevention social for residents hosted by the property management and attended by police to explain the program and encourage partnership.

Crime Free Multi-Housing Program Benefits:

· Reduce crime in rental properties.

· Increase demand for rental units with a reputation for an active management staff.

· Enhance personal safety for residents and management.

· Develop a relationship with law enforcement.

· Spend more time on management duties and lesson crisis control.

· Lower maintenance and repair costs

· Increase property values!

BENEFIT:

Management will receive email notification from law enforcement indicating the time in which police were at the property along with the crime that occurred. This process allows management to quash any rumors on the property and quickly react to a tenant(s) action.
