In 1984, Summit member Buck Campbell put up $500 to establish the McKnight Scholarship in memory of his longtime friend and fellow Rotarian, Bill McKnight. Buck stipulated that the money should go to a student selected by the Guilford County schools and Summit Rotary based on strong academic performance, financial need, and evidence of a commitment to service. Buck then challenged club members to match his contribution.
Today, a $2000 McKnight scholarship is now awarded annually to one of three senior finalists from each of Guilford County’s 16 public high schools.
