Wrestlers in a Circus, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner
Locked in an active embrace, wrestlers rock on a brightly colored mat. Famous for his scenes of urban life, Kirchner uses loose brushstrokes to capture the blur of bodies in motion. The Nazi party labeled Kirchner's work "degenerate" in 1933, and in 1937 more than 600 of his works were sold or destroyed.
