In this workshop, we will explore how to incorporate reused materials in creative zine making. Zines are small booklets that are intensely expressive and unique. A unique taster of print and book making skills, this workshop will inspire you to create.
A small press will be available in the workshop to create new monoprints for the zines. Attendees will be given a demonstration from the artist and an opportunity to make their own prints. Monoprints are a unique state print that creates only one image. They can be easy, quick, and expressive. Making a zine is accessible and fun! It requires light paper folding and cutting to create a booklet. Create a theme for your zine or just explore making something new.
In addition to creating, reused materials are encouraged, such as old drawings, magazines, books, and paper. The artist will bring a variety of personal prints to be reused. Using these materials and new prints developed in the workshop, we will collage, draw, and create a unique zine.
About the Artist:
Graduating from the National Art School in 2020, Claire is an emerging artist working with drawing and print media. Since then, they have exhibited in group shows with Stanley St Gallery, such as 'Loss of Horizon' in 2022 and 'Is it Black or White...' in 2021. In their practise, they use monoprint extensively with a focus on unique mark-making. Welch received the Bouddi Foundation of the Arts grant in both 2016 and 2021.
