Join us at Creative Grounds DC for an inspiring journey through the art of poetry in this dynamic creative writing workshop series. Whether you're an experienced poet or just beginning to explore your voice, this series invites participants to dive deep into the power of words. Through guided exercises, group discussions, and collaborative writing, we’ll explore themes of self-expression, identity, and storytelling. Each session will focus on honing poetic techniques, experimenting with form, and finding your unique style. Come ready to write, share, and connect in a supportive, creative community. Meet Your Kiddos Teacher:
Mariah "Beyond Your Definition" Barber is a multifaceted professional based in Washington, D.C., known for her extensive work in public health, social justice, and the arts. She holds a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree and is a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES)
As the founder of Invisible Strengths, an HR tech company focused on intersectional disability justice, Mariah aims to bridge workforce challenges often experienced by neurodiverse individuals, especially those from intersecting marginalized groups.
In addition to her professional endeavors, Mariah is a spoken word artist and activist who has been creating social justice-oriented art for over 15 years. She has performed at significant events, including the 2020 George Floyd uprisings and climate justice rallies. Her artistic work is informed by her academic background, which includes a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and certifications in cultural anthropology and global understanding.
Mariah has hosted open mic events at Busboys and Poets in Washington, D.C., providing a platform for diverse voices in the community.
