About this Event
Harrison Campus | Poet Family Outdoor Education Center
Class meets for five Tuesdays on 4/1, 4/8, 4/15, 4/22, & 4/29, 2025 from 3:00- 5:00 pm.
What is watercolor?
Watercolor is a unique way to creatively represent dreams, illusions, emotions, and bright feelings using water-soluble pigments. Using a cup of water and a few paints, you can create incredible pieces of art. But... if you don’t know what you are doing, you could end up with a soggy mess.
The basics are very simple to learn and with practice can be easily grasped. There is a lot that can be controlled with practice, and the rest (the happy accidents) is what makes watercolor so interesting.
In this three-week class, you will learn about the personality of watercolor and the simple techniques needed to paint with confidence. You will learn everything about what you need to get started, including:
- Paper
- Watercolors
- Different Wash Techniques
- How to Layer
- How to Blend
- Working Light to Dark
- Masking Fluid
- Other Tips and Tricks
By the end of the class, you will have the skills needed to create charming watercolor pieces of your own. Your instructor, Cheryl, will share techniques she has accumulated over the years, so every watercolor enthusiast can learn something.
Leave your cares at the door and dive in! This is your chance to start dabbling in the art of watercolor magic!
Supplies needed:
- Student grade tubes or pans (found in art supply sections, not school sections of stores. Brands like Arteza, Koi, Faber Castell, or small pans of Winsor &Newton).
- 9x12 cold press watercolor sketchbook
- Brushes
- Pallet
- Drawing board with clip
This class is open to all skill levels, but beginners may benefit the most. Students from past classes are welcome to attend again to continue learning new techniques and improve their current skills.
