About the teacher:
Mariko Sugimoris father, who is Japanese, instilled in him the concept of Mottainai, which roughly translates to "what a waste." It is a phrase commonly used in Japanese to express regret of throwing something away when it still holds value. This combined with a love for fiber arts has led Mariko where they are today with visible mending.
