ABOUT THIS EVENT:
Creative Media Social is our mobile creative hangout initiative - we bring professional creative equipment and facilitated safe spaces to accessible venues across North Devon. Each session creates a relaxed, supervised environment where 11-25 year olds can hang out, explore creative media at their own pace, or just be in a supportive space.
✨This Session - 10 January 2026:
We're using the huge top floor room at Barnstaple Library - a spacious area completely separate from the main library downstairs. Think sofas, loads of room to spread out, and a relaxed atmosphere. Not your typical library experience - this is a dedicated creative space for the afternoon.
Come solo or bring friends. Stay for 20 minutes or the full afternoon. You don't have to make anything or produce anything - just be in a safe, supportive, creative environment.
✨What's Available (If You Want It):
We bring professional equipment to every Creative Media Social session:
- Podcasting - recording equipment and editing software
- Video production - cameras, lighting, editing suites
- Photography - professional cameras and photo editing
- Animation - software and tablets for digital animation
- Graphic design - Adobe Creative Suite and professional tools
- Social media content - create content for your platforms
- Music production - recording and production software
The creative media equipment is there for anyone who wants to try it - but there's absolutely no pressure. Some people might spend the whole time experimenting with podcasting. Others might sit on the sofas and chat. Both are completely fine.
✨Who's This For?
Anyone aged 11-25 who'd like a safe, supervised space to hang out with peers in a creative environment. Whether you're interested in media production or just want somewhere to be on a Saturday afternoon - you're welcome.
We're neurodivergent-friendly and SEND-welcoming across all our sessions. Everyone moves at their own pace, and there's no expectation to perform or produce.
✨Safeguarding:
Every Creative Media Social session is a supervised space with DBS-checked facilitators. We follow comprehensive safeguarding policies and all participants are registered. Parents/guardians are welcome to stay to see the space and meet facilitators if that would help with comfort levels.
✨Youth-Led Design:
Devon Youth Council chose Creative Media Social to be funded after identifying that young people across Devon need more safe, accessible spaces to hang out. This methodology was designed in response to what young people themselves said they needed.
✨Getting There:
Enter Barnstaple Library main entrance, head upstairs to the top floor. We'll have signage directing you. If you arrive and can't find us, text 07832 511119.
