How screen education and training is adapting to a growing demand for digital creative thinkers and practitioners.
About this Event

Digitisation of leisure and entertainment has not only changed how people all over the world spend their time, it has created a rapidly expanding global market for digital products such as games and film. South Australia is at the forefront of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths (STEAM) education and training in the skills required for this growing industry.

Minister for Innovation and Skills David Pisoni MP will open the Friday, October 8 Creative Industries Networking session 'STEAMing the Future', a Q & A style panel featuring South Australia's post-school training and education leaders in the skills required for screen product development. Doors open at 5:30pm for a 6:00pm start.

Anna Hodge, Manager of Education and Training at Rising Sun Pictures, is responsible for the management of all courses delivered at RSP and accredited through the University of South Australia. Working in education for over 20 years, Anna has experience in developing, managing and growing educational initiatives in creative and digital media to reflect a changing and diversifying industry, education and training market. Since February 2019, Anna has also been a member of the Creative Industries, Business, ICT and Cybersecurity Industry Skills Council.

Ann-Maree Davies, Head of School at the Academy of Interactive Entertainment in Adelaide started teaching a certificate course for AIE to secondary students with a passion for games. Once AIE set up a campus in Adelaide, Ann-Maree joined the team. She has facilitated the first digital traineeship in games and defence as well as a strong work experience program. Ann-Maree is a Board Member of the SAFC and shares her knowledge and background in games and education as part of her role. She has a Degree in Computer Science with a Pure Math Major and holds a Master in Education (Leadership).

Louise Nobes, Founder of 42 in South Australia, started her career as a social worker and then moved into education, entrepreneurship, and business. She discovered 42 when she was still searching for solutions that removed some of the greatest barriers to education for disadvantaged young people. 42 is a globally innovative software engineering school that is tuition free and open to all. She believes 42 is a great solution to unlocking the potential in anyone.

James Calvert, Senior Lecturer at Torrens University in Adelaide, is an educator, researcher, game designer and filmmaker with 20 years' experience creating engaging content for all screen types. Most recently, James has focused his attention on teaching and research – particularly in the field of Virtual Reality (VR) for education. In this time, James has worked closely with industry developing immersive educational experiences in VR. Prior to academia, James spent 15 years working in the creative industries, designing and directing animated films and video games for a global audience.

James Marshall, Head of Studio at CDW Animation has a career that covers Film, TV, Online, VFX, VR, Game development, Animation and government. James is now helping CDW Studios expand into Animation and Games Production. He is also Managing Director of Golden Age Studios and serves on various advisory panels and boards across education and industry advocacy groups. Previous roles include Head of Learning and Development for Technicolor, Senior Producer at Start VR, Transmedia Producer for Yahoo!7 and Chief Creative Officer at Mudita Games.

You will be able to ask questions of the panel during the formal session and then meet and network with fellow business owners from across the sectors of the creative industries. Soft drinks and nibbles provided, cash bar available.
