Anthony Jimenez in his words:
I am a second generation Latinx Artist, muralist, and educator, residing in San
Francisco CA; I hold a B.A. in Visual and Public Art. I grew up in the Bay Area, where
cultural diversity influenced my ideology.
In college, I was inspired to get an art degree when I saw how powerful visual imagery
was. My program focused on how to use our art reciprocally with the community to
change our public spaces for the better. This molded how I saw my practice, and I
realized that art is a vessel for change.
When I moved to San Francisco, I took initiative to seek mentors, other Latinos who
could guide how to serve poc, indigenous and underserved communities, as well as
new artistic techniques. I found that community in the vibrant arts & culture of the
Mission District, where my peers share the same mission as me — to influence public
discourse for the greater good through the Arts, and to celebrate our heritage and roots
so that we may empower others like us.
I am now producing art full time, applying for artists grants, exhibitions, and residencies,
as well as university programs to attain any opportunities available for me as an
emerging artist! I am currently an artist in residence at Medicine for Nightmares, where I
am exhibiting solo work for a grant from the San Francisco Arts Commission, where I
am celebrating people who have had an impact on me by painting portraits of them. I
also have another solo show up at Pancho Villa, in the Mission, exploring my paintings
from the past 4 years.
