The Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences is delighted to announce the relaunch of the Creative Dialogues series. The series ran from 2018-22 to bring high-profile speakers from the arts, journalism and creative industries to Exeter. Previous guests have included Charles Dance, Kamila Shamsie, Stephen Fry, Meera Syal & Sanjeev Bhasker, Amma Asante, Nitin Sawhney and Nick Davies.
After a two-year hiatus, the series is returning this Autumn. On Wednesday 13th November, Professor Linda Williams and Mark Kermode will be in conversation with Film and TV Executive Producer and Exeter alumna, Marigo Kehoe. Marigo has enjoyed a varied and hugely successful career as a film and TV producer, with credits including The Crown, Outlander, Shackleton, Wallander and The Damned United.

About the Guest Speaker

is currently Executive Producer on Amazon and Sony’s fantasy series “The Wheel of Time” based on the enormously successful book series by Robert Jordan and starring Rosamund Pike. She was also Executive Producer on “Outlander” for Starz and “Electric Dreams” for Amazon.
Prior to this she was Managing Director of Left Bank Pictures which she founded with Andy Harries in July 2007 (The Crown; Wallander; Strike Back). Sony Pictures Entertainment acquired the company and on completion of her earnout in 2018 Marigo left the company to pursue new ventures.
Left Bank has become one of the most successful drama production companies in the UK producing the UK’s first Netflix original commission, the award winning The Crown – as well as other multiple award winning drama and comedy series for HBO, BBC, ITV1, Channel 4, E4, Sky, Starz and Amazon including three series of the seven times BAFTA award-winning Wallander (starring Kenneth Branagh); three series of Strike Back; five series of Inspector Banks and five series of Outlander.
Left Bank won Broadcast Production Company of the Year, in both 2011 and 2017, as well as Production Company of the Year at the Edinburgh Television Festival in 2017. Marigo herself won the Women in Film and Television Business Award in 2015.
Before Left Bank, and as Head of Production for Drama, Comedy and Film at Granada, Marigo oversaw production of the Oscar and Bafta award winning feature film The Queen as well as award winning series and films including Prime Suspect; Cracker; The Royle Family, Cold Feet, Longford and The Deal.

Prior to Granada Marigo was Head of Production at Tiger Aspect, having moved there from Channel 4 where she oversaw the production of drama, including the award winning Shackleton.
As a Line Producer she worked on the Blackadder Film for the Millenium Dome with Richard Curtis.
Marigo began her career in commercials as a producer working for many of the top commercial companies in the UK at the time, including Ridley Scott, Paul Weiland and Rose Hackney.


Professor Linda Williams
Linda is Professor of Film at the University of Exeter. Before she came to Exeter in 2017, she was Professor of Film in the English Department at Southampton University, and before that taught at Liverpool University and at Manchester University. Linda works onwomen's work in the UK screen sector, and also has a strong interest in how this builds new film histories, including through archives. She has been involved in film exhibition and curation for a decade or so, as co-curator of the annual Shetland Film Festival Screenplay.


Mark Kermode
Mark is an Honorary Professor of Film at the University of Exeter. He is a film critis, musician, radio presenter, television presenter, author and podcaster. He co-presents the BBC Radio 4 programme Screenshot and the podcast series Kermode and Mayo's Take. His books on film and music include The Good The Bad & The Multiplex, Hatchet Job, and How Does it Feel. He is a founding member of the skiffle band the Dodge Brothers who provide live accompaniment to silent movies.
