Taking your craft hobby to a craft business
Our new programme has been developed to support you in taking the next step in your craft journey and taking the leap into starting your own craft business.
The programme structure runs as follows:
We commence with a 3-week course, which runs 2 hours per week at the same location with the same tutor/s to ensure continuity.
Over the 3 weeks we will be exploring:
Your products to see if these work for your new business.
How to compile a Maker’s statement and story, so that your unique selling points can be identified and used in marketing your product.
Where to sell and how to sell? What is your audience and who are your competitors?
An understanding of costs, insurance, HMRC requirements, risk assessing and licences (if required).
How to set up your craft fayre stand and ensure you engage with your audience.
How to write a creative business plan so you have clear steps to move forward following the programme.
Your tutor/s will be there at each step of the way throughout the programme, from the 3-week course which then leads onto a 1:1 mentorship (either in person or online) and then onto you joining them at a LilyBoo craft fayre, which will give you a platform for selling your work. They will also be there to evaluate and support you after the fayre to ensure you have a clear plan to help you move forward.
You may choose to add on some mentorship hours after the course finishes, just to keep the focus going.
Throughout the course you will be given lots of guidance, not just verbally, but also through a workbook, that has lots of useful documents and links to help you set up your business, ensuring you take successful steps to bring your dream to reality.
Please note that the dates are Monday 3rd November, Monday 10th November and Monday 17th November 6.30pm to 8.30pm at LilyBoo. 1:1 mentorship to be arranged following the 3 weeks and can be completed online or in person. Access to a LilyBoo makers market, date to be agreed.
Who the workshop is suitable for
An individual who is looking to take their creativity into a business, or someone who has just commenced the progress of setting up their business.
What do I need to bring to the workshop
We ask you on week one to bring with you 2 items, the first being an item you make that is easy to replicate and keeps your costs low and then a higher end item that you have made.
What is included
As mentioned above, 3 x 2 hour sessions, mentorship, a space at a LilyBoo craft fayre and lots of information and useful links.
Who the workshop is run by
At least one tutor will run each programme, on occasions two will be present. The tutors are Hayley Toms, owner of LilyBoo and a maker and Jo Hague, LilyBoo’s freelance creative coach and a maker.
Other things you need to know
Please note that the course is held upstairs, up a flight of steep steps but once there, you will have everything you need. We do provide refreshments within the cost.
Please contact Hayley at LilyBoo should you wish to discuss a payment plan for the programme.
