This two-day workshop is an opportunity to make your own handcrafted books using traditional bookbinding skills. You will learn the basic principles of this craft and discover how you can bring your unique creativity to a variety of book formats. We will begin with a simple pamphlet, explore a variety of concertina structures and then move on to making a longstitch journal. These styles of bookbinding have been carefully selected to enable you to build your skills over the two days and continue making these types of books at home without the need for heavy equipment.
As notebooks, sketch books or storage for mementoes, small photographs, poems, stories or other texts, these books function as both useful objects or sources of inspiration. The books we will make will be blank allowing you to experiment further in your own time.
Facilitated by professional Nelson bookbinder, Rosie-Anne Pinney, you will be guided, step by step through the intricate and precise process of making books, using a mix of traditional and more contemporary materials and techniques.
