Creative Aging: Mask Making in the Vejigante Tradition

Join artist Allison Martínez Arocho for this three-hour workshop for adults 55 and better at the Utah Museum of Fine Arts! This workshop, inspired by the vibrant Vejigante mask tradition of Puerto Rico, will help you connect memory with art making. Vejigante masks, worn by folkloric characters, are joyful symbols of resistance, celebrating cultural identity and heritage. In this hands-on workshop, participants will decorate their own Vejigante mask, incorporating personal elements that reflect memories of home.

You need only bring your creativity! All materials provided. This workshop is free for anyone 55+, registration is required. We know things come up, but please plan carefully so we can keep this programming free! Please do not reserve a ticket if you cannot attend.

Allison Martínez Arocho is an artist and educator. She expresses her artistic voice through paintings and sculptures. Each piece reflects her deep-rooted nostalgia and affection for her homeland, Puerto Rico, with colors that serve as a vibrant palette of memories.
