This workshop is an introduction to creating interactive graphics and animations in the browser-based creative coding application p5.js. During this lab session participants will learn how to create dynamic visuals using the p5.js command line interface, working with custom shapes, colours, text, imported data and algorithms while adding interactivity and movement to their onscreen canvas.
Dr Kieran Nolan is an artist and academic exploring the aesthetic and connective properties of games, interfaces, and networked media through digital art, design critique, and platform histories. He holds a PhD from Trinity College Dublin (School of Computer Science and Statistics, and Digital Arts & Humanities programmes), an MA in Learning and Teaching from DkIT, an MA in Interactive Media from the University of Limerick, and a BDes (Hons) in Digital Media from LYIT / ATU Donegal. Kieran's work has featured in peer-reviewed conferences, texts, and exhibitions worldwide including SIGGRAPH, ISEA, A MAZE, DiGRA, Japan Media Arts Festival, History of Games, Tokyo Games Show, and Transmediale, and has picked up awards from Imirt, the Institute of Designers in Ireland, and Leonardo / the International Society for the Arts, Sciences and Technology. He is a lecturer in Creative Media at Dundalk Institute of Technology, and Co-Director of DkIT's Creative Arts Research Centre.
