Creating Cyanotypes
Welcome to our hands-on workshop with Lucy Perry where you'll learn the magical art of Cyanotype printing. Join us at The Nest for a fun-filled day of creativity and experimentation. This in-person event will guide you through the process of creating unique blue prints using sunlight and simple materials. No prior experience needed, just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to get your hands dirty. Get ready to dive into the world of alternative photography and unleash your inner artist. Don't miss out on this exciting opportunity to explore a historic photographic process in a relaxed and supportive environment.
What is a cyanotype? The process was invented in the mid C19th and is one of the earliest forms of photography - also known as a sun print. An iron solution is painted onto a surface which becomes light sensitive. By placing natural forms over the surface and exposing it to the sun (or UV light on a grey UK day) an image is created. By the nature of the iron compound this magical image appears in tones of a rich prussian blue. It is a playful and exciting process, sometimes unpredictable, often wonderfully surprising and a beautifully direct way to record nature.
Lucy Perry is a British painter-printmaker with a studio in the heart of rural East Anglia. Her extensive and lively body of work responds to natural forms with painterly and colourful outcomes exploring pattern and place. Her work using the cyanotype process directly captures moments of light on the surface and connects deeply to nature. Lucy has been a professional art educator since 1995 and currently teaches workshops in Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex to nurture creativity and inspire participants to connect with nature. Lucy has work in private collections in the UK, USA and Europe.
