Creating Cultural Spaces: Yarning Circles and Bush Tucker Garden: Teacher Professional Learning

This course is designed for Educators to increase their understanding of the importance of creating culturally safe spaces and how to incorporate yarning circles and bush tucker gardens into the educational setting. We will explore various designs of yarning circles and how to go about making them with your local community. We also explore native plants and their uses in food, resources and medicines.
Including Cultural spaces encompasses Indigenous ways of learning, connecting students to Country and Place and providing authentic inclusion of cultural practice.
This course is created and delivered by Aboriginal people with education qualifications working in partnership with Aboriginal community to provide educators with authentic, localised content. Participants in this course will learn to incorporate this knowledge into their classroom and gain confidence to authentically create, maintain, and utilise cultural spaces.
Minimum number of participants is 10.
NESA Accreditation:
Creating Cultural Spaces: Yarning Circles and Bush Tucker Garden will contribute two hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area of Aboriginal education and supporting Aboriginal students/children addressing standard descriptors 1.4.2 & 2.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
Teachers attending this session must provide their NESA Teacher Accreditation number to Speaking in Colour to have their hours logged with ETAMs.
Teachers must attend for the duration of the session to receive the NESA Hours. Speaking in Colour will be keeping records of attendance and participation during the session.
