About this Event
Dave Leggatt and Sue Brown will lead this two-day workshop for meditators seeking to bring more ease and freedom into their caring relationships with others, whether personally or professionally. This experiential workshop will be grounded in Insight Dialogue—an interpersonal meditation practice inspired by the wisdom teachings of the Buddha, which is focused on bringing greater awareness and intention into our moments in relationship.
Together, we will explore how to soften the sense of self involved in caring for others, which reduces the stress of wanting to be a “compassionate caregiver” (which can lead to self-judgment and self-criticism when we perceive ourselves not to measure up). We will do this through exploring fresh applications of the Buddha’s teachings on the Brahma Viharas, or the “divine abodes” of love, compassion, joy, and equanimity. As we learn how to embody non-attachment (or emptiness) in relationship, we invite greater resonance and joy in how we show up for others.
Participants will find it supportive to have silent/solitary meditation experience. That said, this is not a silent workshop, but a participatory weekend that will include periods of relational meditation in pairs and small groups. No prior experience in Insight Dialogue is required.
We're delighted to welcome Insight Dialogue teachers Dave Leggatt (from Toronto) and Sue Brown (from North Carolina) to DC to facilitate this special workshop.
Dave Leggatt has practiced in the Vipassana tradition for many years, and joined the Insight Dialogue facilitator program in 2016. Since then he has been facilitating and teaching in-person residential retreats, workshops, and online offerings across the globe.
Sue Brown began practicing Insight Dialogue since 2006, and has offered the practice online and in person since 2011.
