Workshop Title & Description: Creating a Culture of Care: Identifying Victimization and Responding Effectively to Disclosures of Abuse
Do you feel prepared to support survivors who have experienced some form of abuse or victimization? If not, this BLAB-IT response workshop was created just for you. This workshop explores vulnerable populations that are disproportionately impacted by sexual violence. The absence of effective listening skills can create roadblocks to survivor advocacy and get in the way of providing survivors with empathetic, validating, and relevant support. During this workshop, you will explore the trauma-informed BLAB-IT approach developed to provide a safe and comfortable environment when survivors disclose abuse. You will leave with new skills, resources and the confidence to BLAB-IT: Breathe, Listen, Affirm, Believe, and share Information for Trauma-Informed Support Services.
Objectives:
1. Participants will be able to recognize the signs of abuse.
2. Participants will develop plans to prevent sexual abuse within their spheres of influence.
3. Participants will have skills to respond effectively when a survivor discloses rape or sexual abuse.
